Outgoing Livingston Schools Superintendent Announces Leave, Assistance with Transition
Livingston, La. – Livingston Parish Public Schools Superintendent Joe Murphy announced he will take administrative leave of office prior to his retirement date to allow ample time for transition for the new superintendent.
The Livingston Parish School Board on Monday (April 15) selected current Assistant Superintendent Jody Purvis to be the district’s next superintendent. Purvis is set to assume the position on July 1, 2024, concurrent with Murphy’s retirement.
However, Murphy said he will take administrative leave, beginning Monday, April 22, to allow Purvis to begin to meet with his staff, and work with the board on implementing his plans for the district.
“I am most grateful for the five years I have served as superintendent of Livingston Parish Public Schools, as well as my 32 years in this system,” Murphy said. “There is no greater career than that of an educator, and there is no greater place to work than Livingston Parish.”
“I want to do all I can to assist our new superintendent, by allowing him to step into the decision-making role prior to the start of the new fiscal year, ensuring a more seamless transition,” Murphy said.
