School Leaders Cut Ribbon on New South Fork Junior High
WALKER, La. – School leaders for Livingston Parish Public Schools and South Fork Junior High School held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday (Aug. 13) to celebrate the opening of the district’s newest campus, South Fork Junior High School, located at 23312 Walker South Road.
The ceremony began at 8:30 a.m. in the school library, with remarks from Principal Jeffery Watts, Assistant Principal Brandy Hoch, Superintendent Jody Purvis and Walker-area school board members Jeff Cox and Katelyn Cockerham, as well as former school board member Bo Graham.
“It’s a total 180 from what we had previously," Watts said. “Everyone is so amazed at the changes in not just the facility, but the culture, and level of pride in our community.”
“The students are so excited, and our parents are so impressed. They can’t believe how beautiful our campus is,” Hoch added. “Our 7th and 8th graders know how special this is. They know the school we’ve come from, to see what we have now.”
The new $22 million, 80,000-square-foot campus replaces the old Walker Junior High School campus, which was originally built in 1921 as the first Walker High School. It was later converted into a junior high campus.
The new campus serves grades 6-8 and features a new gymnasium and modern classrooms, modern electrical and lighting services, a library and
dedicated room for computer science. The school shares a cafeteria with the neighboring South Fork Elementary campus. The new school’s mascot is the Bronco.
"It's a beautiful facility that has been in the works for a couple of years. I think the community is very excited to see the project become reality," Superintendent Jody Purvis said.
