Livingston Parish Students Reach New Heights on State LEAP Assessments Schools Post Significant Growth While Maintaining High Levels of Achievement
LIVINGSTON, La. – Livingston Parish Public Schools continued to demonstrate its standing as one of Louisiana's highest-performing school systems, with students posting strong growth and achievement across multiple subject areas on the state's 2025 LEAP assessments.
The Louisiana Department of Education released LEAP results today showing notable gains in Mathematics, Science, English Language Arts, and Social Studies at schools throughout the district. The results reflect Livingston Parish's continued commitment to increasing the percentage of students achieving Mastery and Advanced, the state's highest performance levels.
"I want to thank our students, employees, families, and community for their continued commitment to excellence. Livingston Parish remains one of the highest performing school districts in Louisiana, and that is something we are very proud of," Superintendent Jody Purvis said.
"At the same time, our focus has never been on rankings alone. We celebrate our accomplishments, but we are equally committed to addressing areas where we can do better. That commitment to continuous improvement is what moves us forward. These results reflect the dedication of our entire school community and our shared belief that every student can achieve at high levels."
This year's results were highlighted by strong gains in Mathematics, with several schools achieving significant increases in Mastery+ performance. Denham Springs High School led the district with a 10.5 percentage point increase, improving from 31.0 percent to 41.5 percent. Live Oak Elementary followed closely with a 10.0 point gain, rising from 49.5 percent to 59.5 percent. Live Oak Junior High improved by 9.2 points, increasing from 45.3 percent to 54.5 percent. French Settlement Elementary showed an 8.8 point increase, growing from 39.0 percent to 47.8 percent. Albany Middle School also improved by 8.6 points, moving from 45.4 percent to 54.0 percent. Albany High School demonstrated strong growth as well, with an 8.4 percentage point increase. Together, these gains reflect the
district's sustained focus on strengthening mathematics instruction and increasing student achievement.
Science performance also showed impressive growth across the district, with several schools posting substantial increases in Mastery+ achievement. Live Oak Elementary led the parish with a 13.4 point increase, improving from 31.0 percent to 44.4 percent. Live Oak High School recorded a 10.7 point gain, rising from 33.0 percent to 43.7 percent, while North Live Oak Elementary increased 9.8 points from 42.9 percent to 52.7 percent. Southside Junior High posted a 6.2 point improvement, while Springfield Elementary followed closely with a 6.0 point gain. The results reflect continued progress in science achievement and the district's commitment to high-quality instruction across all grade levels.
English Language Arts remained a district strength, with several schools posting notable gains in Mastery+ achievement. Walker Junior High recorded the parish's largest increase, improving 9.8 points from 34.7 percent to 44.5 percent. North Live Oak Elementary continued its strong performance with a 5.8 point gain, reaching 72.0 percent Mastery+. Doyle High School increased 5.0 points to 58.0 percent, while Denham Springs High School improved 4.6 points from 51.0 percent to 55.6 percent. French Settlement Elementary and Albany Middle School each posted solid growth, with both schools increasing 4.2 points. These gains demonstrate the district's ongoing success in advancing literacy and academic achievement.
That success is also reflected in the district's highest-performing ELA schools. South Live Oak Elementary led the parish with 74.0 percent of students scoring at the Mastery and Advanced levels, followed closely by North Live Oak Elementary at 72.0 percent. Eastside Elementary recorded a strong 69.0 percent Mastery+ rate, while Live Oak High School and Juban Parc Elementary each achieved 62.0 percent. These exceptional results underscore the strong reading and language arts instruction taking place across Livingston Parish schools.
Social Studies achievement also showed strong growth across the district, with several schools achieving significant increases in Mastery+ performance. Live Oak Elementary led the parish with an 11.4 percentage point increase, improving from 33.0 percent to 44.4 percent. Live Oak Junior High followed with a 9.0 percentage point gain, rising from 53.0 percent to 62.0 percent. French Settlement High School also demonstrated significant growth, with an 8.0 percentage point increase. North Live Oak Elementary, Walker Junior High, Denham Springs High School, and Walker High School each recorded solid growth, posting gains of seven percentage points. This widespread improvement reflects continued
momentum in social studies achievement and the district's commitment to excellence across all academic disciplines.
According to the state's latest report, Livingston Parish Public Schools ranked among Louisiana's Top 10 school districts, with 44 percent of students scoring at the Mastery and Advanced levels. These results exceed the state average of 36 percent by 8 percentage points, reinforcing Livingston Parish Schools' reputation as one of Louisiana's highest-performing public school systems and reflecting the district's continued pursuit of academic excellence.
The LEAP assessment serves as Louisiana's measure of student readiness and achievement, evaluating mastery of state academic standards in English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. At the high school level, students demonstrate their knowledge and skills through rigorous end-of-course assessments in English I and II, Algebra I, Geometry, Biology, Civics, and U.S. History.
