Criteria for Evaluating Web Sites
 

The Office of Technology is made up of three departments: The Management of Information Systems (MIS) Department, the Wide Area Network (WAN) Department and the Technology Training Department.  All classrooms are wired for the Internet.  There are approximately 7,000 computers in the system with a student to computer ratio of approximately 5:1.

Acceptable Use Policies and Procedures

In its continued efforts to comply with the Children's Internet Protection Act, the School Board has adopted and will enforce a policy of Internet safety that incorporates the use of computer-related technology designed to block or filter Internet inappropriate access for minors and adults to certain web sites. In addition LPPS has established
guidelines for exploring and using Internet resources within the school district to enhance learning and teaching activities. Acceptable use of these resources shall be consistent with the philosophy, goals and objectives of the Livingston Parish School Board. To ensure that the policies are enforced certain procedures have been identified.
  1. Include discussion Of CIPA and Acceptable Use on the staff back to school agenda, keep a copy of the agenda along with the remaining documents on file at your school. Circulate Teacher Sign In Sheets during discussion. Points to cover are listed on sign in sheets.
  2. The Acceptable Use Policy will be distributed to Students and Parents by Schools through the Student Handbook.
  3. Principals will meet with teachers to explain their responsibilities.
  4. Teachers will disseminate the information to students. As documentation of discussion students in grades 3 and above must sign the Students Sign In Sheets
  5. The following documents are available to facilitate the process.
MIS Department


T
he MIS Department plans and directs all electronic data processing and management  of information systems activities for the school system. Responsibilities include state reporting and managing the databases for:  payroll, budgeting, personnel, asset management and all other system wide programs. These systems are maintained to meet district, state and federal regulations/mandates in data collection and reporting.

The WAN Department is responsible for managing and suppoerting the Wide Area Network and Local Area Networks (LANs) at all of the 43 district sites. The department maintains and supports over 120 servers, and all aspects of desk top support.
All classrooms, with the exception of a few temporary buildings, are wired for the Internet.

Technology Training


The Technology Training Department is responsible for providing technology training for teachers and administrators. This department is funded through technology grants from state sources, federal sources, local funds and many collaborative funding efforts with various departments and schools . Concentration has been on the integration of technology into the curriculum using an instructional technology professional development model.
