Using YouTube In the Classroom
Help! I can not get to YouTube......
YouTube is NOT blocked for the Teacher Group.

You are assigned Group rights when you log in.

  1. Shut down your computer completely (do not do restart). Do this every day!!
  2. Then in the morning turn it back on. When it comes back on, make sure workstation only is not checked,
    and log in.
  3. If you are at a school that is still logging into Novell, right click on the red N near the time and Login.
  4. Also if you are using a laptop make sure the wireless is turned off or disabled.
Caution: Never show a video to your classroom that you have not watched in its entirety !!
Never go to YouTube live in front of your students !!
Red delicious apple YouTube has great videos on every topic
but sometimes what pops up
around your video may be
somewhat distracting to say the least!

RealPlayer- Does it all!!! Once installed, anytime you watch a video you will have the option to download it. Once downloaded you can convert it to any format you want or you can trim it in the program. Incredibly easy!!

There are 2 basic ways to get rid of unwanted graphics and text:

(this process may take a long time!)

  1. Copy the url of the video and paste it into a site that will show only the video on your screen.

  1. Convert the video to another file type and save it on your computer. Then you can show it any time and even edit it. Use a downloader or a converter, most of these have both a free version and a version you can purchase.

    • http://keepvid.com/ has a free online version with limited format outputs and a version you can purchase and install. Copy the url of the video you want to save, paste it into the site, click the download button, choose the file type, save to your computer.

    • YouTube-downloader from download.cnet.com, a very reputable download.

    • AnyVideoConverter is a software that has a free version and a version you can purchase. The free version has a large number of format outputs including those that will work with Movie Maker(.asf, .avi, .mov, .mp2, .mp2v, .mpe, .mpeg, .mpg, .mpv2, .wm, and .wmv)
