first run updates
Click here to run updates from Microsoft
The web site will scan your computer and see what
updates you are missing. It will install the most
critical updates first, then you will have to
restart and install updates again. You will need to
do this until there are no more updates for you to
install. This may take a long time if your computer
has not been updating automatically.
Cli

You will see the three security essentials .
-
Firewall
-
Automatic Updates
-
Virus Protection

-
The Firewall should be off.
-
If it is ON click on
Manage security settings for: Windows Firewall.
Make sure that Off is selected even though it is
not recommended. There are many times when the
Helpdesk is able to fix problems by virtually
controlling your computer from the central
office and this is not possible if the firewall
is turned on.

-
Automatic Updates should be on.
If Automatic Updates are not on Click on Manage
security settings for Automatic Updates.
Set a schedule for automatic updates. If
your computer is turned off during a scheduled
update, updates are installed the next time you
start your computer.
If your computer has not been set to receive
automatic updates then you will need to click on
Windows
Update Web Site. The web site will scan your
computer and see what updates you are missing. Next
you will click the button that says "Download
and Install Now". It
will install the most critical updates first, then
you will have to restart and install updates again.
You will need to do this until there are no more
updates for you to install. This may take a long
time if your computer has not been updating
automatically. You may need to install Active
X for this web page before you can begin. You do
that by clicking on the bar just above your
browser window.
**If your computer fails to install an update
you should shut down and try again.**

Arrow to scan items you have checked.

computer is being scanned and that Files are being updated

information.

including screen shots click here.
Check your security Center again (Start>Control
Panel>Security center). Look at the virus protection
bar and click on the arrows to the far right
