Responsibilities of Laptop/Computer Ownership
The Administration at each school, as well as the LPPS Inventory
Department, is responsible for seeing that all equipment
assigned to an employee is returned when they leave the
system.
Listed below are procedures that must be
adhered to by any employee fortunate enough to have a laptop
purchased by LPPS in your possession.
-
The laptop is
expected to be in your classroom each day and you must be
able to produce this laptop when requested.
-
They must be tagged with a Livingston
Parish Inventory tag and
added to your school inventory.
-
If you
change schools, the laptop must be deleted from the
former school inventory and added to the present school
inventory. Notify Karen Alwell at Karen.alwell@lpsb.org
or by phone at 686-4223.
-
The laptop must be
returned to the school board in the event that your
employment with LPPS ends.
-
The laptop must be "checked out" to you
on the
“Off Campus Property Location Control Report”
located in your school office.
-
If the laptop is stolen you must report
it to the police and send us a copy of the police report.
-
If the laptop is lost (when off campus)
you are responsible for the replacement or reimbursement.
-
The school board is not responsible for
providing replacement batteries for the laptop.
-
It is understood that you may take this
laptop home to use but its primary purpose is to improve
student achievement.
-
Report any broken laptop to the technology
coordinator at your school so that it may be fixed!
-
If you are no longer using
the laptop turn it in to the inventory control person at
your school so that someone else may use it.
Proper Security Settings for your Computer
-
Have
“Automatic Updates” turned On
-
Have
"Virus Protection” turned On
-
Have the
"Firewall" turned Off when at school.
The Firewall should be turned on when you are at home.
You can do anything you want on your
personal computer at home but on school board equipment we
need your cooperation:
-
Laptops and other computers
issued by LPPS are to be used for School and Curriculum
based activities.
-
All software must have a valid license and
should be approved.
-
Do not engage in any peer to
peer sessions or play online games
-
Keep windows and office
updates current.
-
Make sure your antivirus is
updating and run a full scan once a week.
-
Do not log on at school "work
station only" because you don't get security pushes from
the Network Admin.
-
Do not install peer to peer
connections for sharing music or videos, for example :
Limewire
Limewire is software that sets up peer to peer connections
for sharing of music and/or video/software. This is blocked
within the network which means teachers are using and
downloading this software at home. If you use limewire to
establish a peer to peer connection, you have no idea what
is on the computer at the other end of the connection...VIRUSes???
Trojans???? WORMS?????
If you have a problem with your
laptop you should handle it like any other computer in your
classroom.
The procedure is:
-
Report the problem to the
technology coordinator at your school.
-
They will know if this is a known
issue, an issue they can resolve easily or if there
is a building or network issue that may be affecting
your computer.
-
If the technology coordinator
can not help you themselves they will report the issue
to the Help Desk.
-
The Help Desk person may attempt
to resolve the issue by remotely accessing your
computer. This can only be done if the
Firewall is
turned off and
VNC is installed on your computer.
The Helpdesk person will need your ip address to do
this. Click here to find your
Ip address.
-
If the Help Desk person cannot
resolve the issue remotely, a ticket will be created
and a technician will be assigned to visit your
classroom and attempt to resolve the issue on site.
This should take no longer than two weeks!! Please
follow up with your technology coordinator if no one
visits your classroom.
-
If the computer cannot be "fixed"
it is the responsibility of the
technician to either take the equipment with
them to be used for parts or to affix a label to
the computer designating it as "Surplus".
-
It is the responsibility of
the teacher to report that the equipment was
labeled "Surplus" to the inventory control
person at your school.
-
It is the
responsibility of
the inventory control person to remove the item
from inventory using "Form 176" and to turn that
form into the Inventory Control Person in the
Business Department at the Central Office in
Livingston.
-
The school may choose to
continue to use "Surplus" equipment, however the
technology department will not be responsible
for repairing this equipment.
-
Surplus materials will be
picked up for disposal twice a year. These dates
are posted on the Pony schedule.
-
Things you can do to help get
the issue resolved quickly
-
Give the IP
address to your technology coordinator.
How do I find my IP Address
-
Be sure that you have tried
rebooting your computer.
-
Be sure that you are logged in to
the network using your Novell Log In.
