ELEMENTARY REPORT
The Livingston Parish Public School System has approximately 15,380 students enrolled in grades Kindergarten through 8th. Approximately 732 regular education teachers are assigned to these grades for the 2004-2005 sessions.
The Central Office Elementary Division Staff consists of a curriculum director, five supervisors and four curriculum coordinators. All elementary schools submit school improvement plans each year. These plans reflect a variety of ways in which school will target to improve performance. The elementary division then provides support and leadership in targeted areas. Additionally, dissemination of information and opportunities to attend local, state and national workshops, seminars and conferences are provided to parish teachers.
The elementary program of studies consists primarily of required basic education courses. An emphasis is placed on language arts and mathematics in kindergarten through 3rd grades. Our program focuses on the Louisiana English Language Arts Content Standards and Louisiana Mathematics Framework with the goal of providing a balanced approach of reading and mathematics. Social Studies, science, physical education and fine arts are an integral part of our course offerings. Foreign Language programs have been expanded around our parish. Thirty of our schools incorporate into their curriculum computer assisted instruction in language arts and mathematics. Co-curricular activities such as academic competitions, science fairs, social studies fairs, and 4-H clubs add variety to our programs. |
