****The Comprehensive Curriculum is a state mandated document that teachers
are required to use to guide their instruction. It encompasses all the
GLE’s that should be taught at each grade level.
General
Guidelines
ENGLISH
LANGUAGE ARTS/ READING ESSENTIALS (K-5):
1.
Teach the units in the order they are presented.
2.
There will be no set timeframe to teach each unit, but you should use
the suggested pacing time in the Comprehensive Curriculum as a guide so that
you will have covered the needed material before spring testing. You may
adjust as you feel needed.
MATH (K-5):
1.
The new Harcourt Math series covers all of the GLE’s in the
Comprehensive
Curriculum; therefore, you may use the Harcourt Math series in the order it
is presented, but you must supplement with some of the activities
from the units in the Comprehensive Curriculum. Evidence of use of the
activities must be documented in the lesson plan book.
OR
You may choose to
continue to teach the math units in the order they are presented in the
Comprehensive Curriculum.
2.
Use the Comprehensive Curriculum suggested pacing as a guide so that
you will have covered the needed material before spring testing. Adjust as
you feel needed.
SOCIAL STUDIES (GRADES
1-3):
1.
All of the social studies units from the Comprehensive Curriculum
will be taught the FIRST semester.
2.
Refer to the suggested pacing as a guide—adjust as you feel needed.
SOCIAL STUDIES (GRADES
4-5):
1.
Units for grades 4 and 5 will be taught in the order presented.
2.
Refer to the suggested pacing as a guide—adjust as you feel needed.
SCIENCE (GRADES1-3):
1.
All of the science units from the Comprehensive Curriculum will be
taught the SECOND semester.
2.
Refer to the suggested pacing time as a guide—adjust as you feel
needed.
SCIENCE (GRADES 4-5):
1.
Units for grades 4 and 5 will be taught in the order presented.
2.
Refer to the suggested pacing time as a guide—adjust as you feel
needed.
ADDITIONAL CHANGES:
1.
You may allow one to two weeks for establishing routines
and review before
beginning the Comprehensive Curriculum.
2.
Livingston Parish (LP) skills will be used in addition to the
GLE’s to fill in the
gaps in the Comprehensive Curriculum. LP skill cards are provided for the
subjects where gaps are noted in the curriculum.
